My School in the 2009 - 2010 Year

The Writer
I go to Sunset Elementary School. We have some pretty amazing people at my school. The 2009 - 2010 year has some major changes, especially when it comes to who is teaching what.

Starting with Ms. MacKinnon, she is our school secretary. She is really nice and caring and I guess she counts as the school nurse too.

Next, we have Ms. Sweeney. She is the principal of my school and A.J. Elliot in Sointula. That means she has to take a twenty-minute ride on the ferry to get to Sointula. This is her first year as a principal and we can see she's putting in lots of time to make this the great school it is.

Mr. Neilson is our vice-principal. He is also very nice and fills in for Ms .Sweeney. He also teaches grade six with Mrs. Wadhams who is a teacher at Sunset and Cheslakees School.

The Principal, Ms. SweeneyFor the kindergarten class, we have Mrs. Bono. Mrs.Bono is sweet, thoughtful and very kind. She is right into art and does a lot with her class.

Mrs. Nordin is the grade-two teacher. She is a nice person to see and always has a smile on her face. In fact, she even ran the Boston Marathon!

Mrs .Jenkins has a grade-one class. She absolutely loves figure skating. Her favorite skater is Kurt Browning. I got to see him on ice. She loves skating so much she has a skate engraved in one of her molars. She also loves singing.

The Vice-Principal, Mr. NeilsonThen we have Mrs. Monckton. She is right into science. In fact, she has a science class almost everyday! Another really cool thing about her is she has a science table with rocks and fossils. The science table has some gold, crystals etc. She even has some pets in her classroom like salmon, caterpillars and some frogs. Every year she releases the salmon at School House Creek.

The grade-four teacher is Mrs. Nolin who is a new teacher at Sunset Elementary - welcome! She puts pillow cases on students' chairs so they have a place to keep their supplies - very original. She is also the French teacher for many of the intermediate grades. Mrs. Nolin is having students do a PowerPoint presentation in French.

Mr. Mollinga and Mrs. CassonThen we have Mr .Mollinga the grade-5 teacher. He was my teacher last year. He’s a really cool and a humorous teacher. He has something called “Smart Bucks”. You get them for good behavior and home reading. You loose them from leaning back on your chair and for other reasons. Three times a year there are auctions and you can win cool prizes.

Now we have Mr. Gough, the grade-six/seven teacher. He’s a real big fan of the Canucks and I think he’s pretty cool!

Mrs. Casson is also another art lover. She has a summer art camp in August. I enjoy going and learning her skills.

There are also other members of the staff like Mrs. Brooks and Mr. Davidson who help students individually or in small groups.

There are lots of other people too who work and volunteer to make this the great school it is.
